Dr. Wu Cai is a Distinguished Professor of Jiangsu Province at China University of Mining and Technology (CUMT) and a 'Climbing Scholar' under CUMT's high-level talent program. He received his PhD in mining engineering from CUMT (2015) and worked at Imperial College London as a Research Associate from 2017 to 2020. His core research expertise is in the areas of coal burst and microseismic monitoring, hydraulic fracturing and coal burst control, and fluid injection-induced seismicity in geothermal production. 

He has led over 60 projects, including 4 from the National Natural Science Foundation of China and several international cooperation programs with UK, Poland and the Czech Republic. He has over 90 academic publications in refereed journals and conference proceedings, with over 3,600 citations in total in Google Scholar where the highest citation of single article is 243 and the H-index is 35. One of his papers was recognized as a high-impact article by the journal Engineering organized by Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and highlighted by the United Nations for its contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals. He received the Gold Medal of the Geneva International Invention Exhibition (R1), the Second Prize of Scientific and Technological Progress of the Ministry of Education (R5), the Second Prize of Science and Technology of China Coal Industry (R1), and other awards.
