Guangyao Si
Dr. Guangyao Si is an Associate Professor in the School of Minerals and Energy Resources Engineering at UNSW Sydney, where he directs the Geo-Energy and Minerals (GEM) Laboratory and supervises PhD students. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering from the China University of Mining and Technology and a PhD from Imperial College London.
Dr. Si's research focuses on coal spontaneous combustion, gas dynamic disaster prevention, coalbed methane extraction, coupled multiphysics numerical modelling, and machine learning applications in mining engineering. He has received the UNSW Faculty of Engineering Young Researcher Award for Research Excellence in recognition of his contributions.
He is lead Chief Investigator on six Category 1 research grants and over 20 government and industry-funded projects, with a total research portfolio exceeding AUD 14 million. Dr Si has published more than 100 SCI journal papers, including 40 in top 1% journals. His work has been cited over 3,000 times (H-index 31). He serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering and reviews for more than 30 leading international journals.
Dr. Si has successfully graduated 11 HDR students and currently supervises 12 PhD candidates and one postdoctoral researcher.
